What we do?

So, what makes Waves Costa Rica Roxy & Quiksilver Surf Camp so special?  Well, to put it simply, we live pure surf, that is, we challenge ourselves everyday to better each other and the world around us. We start by selecting surfing experts who are just as passionate about teaching as they are about surfing. We plan every surfing expedition to provide the maximum amount surf "stoke"that we can. We even relocated the entire surf camp to allow us to provide better waves for beginners and bigger, badder waves for experts. We organize monthly community events. And finally, we whole-heartedly dedicate ourselves to make sure that every person leaves our surf camp with the most amazing Costa Rican surfing experience possible.

Our school divides its classes into three levels of surfing from which you can choose:

1) Our beginners can learn to surf from our expert instructors in the beautiful Costa Rican waves. We believe that surfing, especially during the learning process, must be fun. So we want to make sure that the most important thing you take away from your lesson is a great experience. We create a comfortable atmosphere for every one of our guests. Our lessons are broken down into three parts. First, we spend time on the beach, working on the breathing, warmup and stretching. While on the sand, students will learn pop-ups, the essential way to stand up on a surfboard, and what we like to call "waveology," the breakdown of the mechanics of a wave. The success of a surf lesson greatly depends on knowing just what to do in the ocean. In the ocean, students will learn paddling, how to break through a wave, and of course, how to stand up on the surf board, and ride the wave.  We guarantee you will be standing up and surfing during your first lesson.

2) Our intermediate surfers can spend one on one time with our instructors to catch waves and improve their form with our program for surf coaching. We provide form improving feedback after every wave. Unlike many other intermediate levels of surf instruction, we plan on surfing very little and improving your surfing form a lot. We welcome surfers who are intermediate skilled looking to improve their moves on the board.

3) Our advanced surfers can utilize our vast local knowledge of Costa Rican surf in order to guide them to any of the great surf breaks in the area like Witch's Rock, Ollie's Point, Playa Grande, Playa Avellanas, or Playa Negra. As a bonus, we know all of the locals and can ensure a great place in the lineup without having to cross tips on every wave. In fact, nothing stokes us more than introducing a veteran surfer to a new group of local grommets and enjoying a cross cultural surf session.
