At Waves Costa Rica, we strive to break free of the typical stereotype of the slacker, care-free surfer. In fact, we appreciate the fact that a surfer is a part of a functioning active community. We have hosted surfing lawyers, surfing engineers, surfing police officers, and surfing doctors and, from them, have learned that surfers, too, need to be leaders and set examples for future generations of surfers. Because of this, we actively offer a multitude of charity and community outreach programs. Some of our events are:
"Un Dia Muy Especial," is one of our annual events that bring athletes from the Special Olympics to the beach for a day. These special athletes get to actively participate in the "stoke" of learning how to surf from our Waves Costa Rica Instructors and other Quiksilver team riders. This event has taken place every November for the past four years.

"The Roxy Cleans Your Beaches," event visits private schools in San Jose and asks the students to write a competitive essay on how to make their school more aware of the environment. The top 30 essay winners—30 girls—are brought to the beach for a day of surfing and pilates. During the event, the park rangers were there to show them how important their roles as community leaders can be.
"The Commit To Your Dreams Event," began a few years ago, when Waves Costa Rica, along with Quiksilver and Harmony Hotel in Nosara created an event to inspire children to never settle for a marginal life. Quiksilver riders, Gilbert Brown, Isaac Vega, Jason Torres, and Ariel Gutierrez gave presentations to the participants, then played beach games and taught them to surf.
